Description: Marvin Gaye fanart. Description: Marvin Gaye negatif photo style in vintage frame. Description: Marvin Gaye who also spelled his surname as Gaye, was an American singer and songwriter. He helped to shape the sound of Motown in the s, first as an in-house session player and later as a solo artist with a string of successes, earning him the nicknames "Prince of Motown" and "Prince of Soul".
There are few awards that were not bestowed upon Gaye during his short-lived career, and even fewer musicians who aren't greatly influenced by his work. In celebration of what would've been Gaye's 74th birthday on April 2 , we are taking a look back at a vintage photo of the star. In this snapshot, he is seen relaxing outside of a studio in Los Angeles, and we have to say, we are a little obsessed with his ensemble. His look proves the theory that all an outfit needs is a strong foundation.
Gaye epitomised Motown style, pioneering double denim, monogrammed varsity jackets, shearling, leather coats, open shirts and raw-edged T-shirts, often worn with his signature knitted beanie hat and aviators. He dressed in slick velvet suits and bowties when performing, as well as clashing prints and flares. Gaye was a humanitarian and he wore his heart on his sleeve, something easily identified within his often mournful, yearning and sexually-charged lyrics which addressed social and personal issues. He was troubled: underneath the harmonies lay an abusive family past, failed marriages, depression and eventually drug addiction.
